Tour overview
‘The Falls Where the Troubles Began’. Visitor Exhibition
New for 2026 is our exclusive combination ticket with the visitor exhibition at St Comgall’s,
Located at stop 14 on our tour route, this compelling new exhibition opens a unique window into one of the most pivotal chapters of Irish political history: the outbreak of the Troubles on the Falls Road in the late 1960’s.
This exhibition tells the story of the outbreak of conflict on the streets that surrounded this old school initially in 1964, and again in 1969 and 1970. Homes and businesses in the Falls were set ablaze by loyalists, and the RUC police opened fire in the direction of the school and the Divis Flats complex. Thereafter, the area faced further devastation when thousands of British soldiers, backed by armoured vehicles and helicopters, stormed the Falls, ransacking homes and placing residents under strict military curfew. Life on the Falls would never be the same again.
Through the 22 powerful short stories, you’ll hear moving first-hand accounts and personal memories that bring this iconic period of local and international history vividly to life. It’s an immersive experience that combines history, emotion and storytelling in a way that’s both informative and unforgettable.
