Tour description
Depart Belfast at 9:00AM and begin the journey along the magnificent Causeway coastal road. It’s now time to sit back and relax for the journey back to Belfast and to check your phone for all the incredible memories you will take with you.
Giant’s Causeway
The highlight of the tour and what you have come to see is the Giant’s Causeway. The Giant’s Causeway has often been described as the 8th wonder of the world, and once you have visited the site you’ll quickly see why. The area consists of around 40,000 hexagonal basalt columns formed during a volcano eruption 60 million years ago. This is one of the world’s great natural attractions although many Irish passionately believe the Causeway was built by the Celtic warrior hero Finn McCool. We will tell you the story and let you decide.
Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge (Viewpoint only)
Visit the amazing Carrick-a-Rede rope bridge – where you can view the bridge which spans a chasm over 75ft in height. The lovely coastal path provides a spectacular walk with stunning sea and cliff views.
The Dark Hedges (Lunch stop)
The Iconic Dark Hedges is one of the best Instagram opportunities of the day. Fans of Game of Thrones will instantly recognise this as the Kings Road from the Game of Thrones series. This road is famous for Arya Stark making her escape from King’s Landing. Whether you are a fan of the show or not, these 300-year-old beech trees are an incredible sight. You can also purchase lunch when we stop off at the Hedges Hotel.
to see the menu for the Hedges Hotel before you travel.
Bushmills Whiskey Distillery (Please note there is no time for the official tour) (Seasonal)
Stop of the day is at Bushmills Whiskey Distillery which has been creating beautiful ‘water of life ‘ since 1608 making this the oldest working distillery in Ireland. Visit this place where family and friends have worked together for generations with the philosophy that handcrafting small batches is the way to create beautifully smooth whiskey. Your stop here allows time for tasting of course!
Dunluce Castle (Photo Stop)
Game of Thrones fans will immediately recognize the House of Greyjoy .One of the most spectacular castle ruins anywhere in the world, Dunluce Castle is located on top of cliffs that collapse into the North Atlantic below. The Castle’s dramatic history of violence, intrigue and rebellion is matched by the scandal and betrayal committed by the Greyjoys in Game of Thrones. This now-ruined medieval castle has been the inspiration for many local fantasy writers! “! It is an ideal if somewhat, chilling location for a photo stop! This Ulster Dreadfort has endured turmoil and murder every bit as horrific as any of the castles of Westeros.
Carrickfergus Castle
Carrickfergus Castle, situated on the northern shore of Belfast Lough. This Norman Castle, which dates back to 1177, was besieged in turn by the Scots, Irish, English and French for centuries. After 800 years Carrickfergus still remains one of the best preserved medieval structures in Ireland and presents a great opportunity for photographs.
Carnlough Harbour
Along the Antrim coastal road is the picturesque fishing village of Carnlough where we stop for a quick comfort break. The village stop is a fitting end to your trip as you take in the quaint harbour used by pleasure boats and small fishing vessels in an area rich for both sea and fresh water angling. The harbour is also famous for featuring in Game of Thrones as the City of Braavos!
Antrim Coast Road
The Antrim Coast Road is widely agreed to be one of the finest stretches of road anywhere in the world. The road hugs the coastline giving incredible seaside views, passing unspoilt beaches, sheltering under rugged cliffs and the villages of Cushendall, Glenariff and Cushendun. You may even see Scotland on a good day!
